Scrivener Royal
Scrivener Royal Competition 2026
According to the Atlantia Minister of Arts and Sciences' website, the Scrivener Royal is chosen for excellence in calligraphy and illumination, and acts as the personal scribe of the Crown. The Scrivener Royal shall serve a term of six months and the competition to choose a new Scrivener Royal shall be held at Coronation. The Scrivener Royal must work in close cooperation with the Clerk of the Signet, ensuring the Clerk Signet is aware of all scribal tasks that have been assigned by the Crown.
This year the Scrivener Royal shall be chosen at 12th Night...
Pay Heed, All Worthy Artisans of the Pen and Brush!
By Royal Wish, let it be known throughout the vast and sun-drenched lands of Atlantia, that the Crown calls upon its most skilled scribes, illuminators, and calligraphers to vie for a singular honor: the title of Scrivener Royal!
This esteemed competition shall unfold amidst the revelry and splendor of Kingdom Twelfth Night, where merriment and artistry shall reign supreme. Their Majesties Athos and Alianora, in their wisdom and profound gratitude, seek a Skilled Scrivener to aid in expressing the boundless thanks they bear for all gentles who serve the Kingdom. Thus, the theme for this year's Scrivener Royal competition shall be the humble yet essential "Note of Gratitude."
Let the ink flow and illustrations gleam as you prepare to demonstrate your mastery in two distinct challenges:
I. The Prepared Design:
An Instrument of Thanks For the first part of this noble endeavor, contestants are requested to devise a piece to be used as a royal thank-you note. Let your ingenuity be your guide! The finished piece must be a complete work, ready to be presented for judging, showing brilliance and quality in both calligraphy and illumination. The only words that need to be on this blank thank you note are “Thank you” or some iteration of that sentiment. This is your chance to craft a design that shall forever be associated with the Royal Hand of King Athos and Queen Alianora!
II. The Onsite Challenge:
Verse and Virtue in Haste The second trial shall test the swiftness of your hand and the depth of your artistic intuition! Contestants shall appear at Kingdom Twelfth Night, where they will be tasked with the creation of a completed thank-you note in an allotted span of time.
Herein lies the true test:
Upon the sounding of the herald's trumpet, each scribe shall draw randomly from a selection of a prepared poetic verse—a short sentiment of thanks and goodwill. This chosen poem shall serve as the text to be included upon the inside of the note. The scribe shall then be challenged to allow the spirit, meter, and meaning of the verse to inform the immediate creation of the note's illumination, border, and calligraphy.
The final piece will be a single, complete, and stunning note of gratitude, wrought in the presence of your peers.
Come forth, worthy scribes! Brandish your finest quills, your best brushes, and your most vibrant pigments! The opportunity to serve the Crown, to have your art pass through the hands of King Athos and Queen Alianora, and to bear the proud title of Scrivener Royal awaits the one whose skill and dedication prove the greatest.
Craft your prepared piece with diligence and prepare your hearts and hands for the spontaneity of the onsite challenge! We eagerly await the marvels you shall bring forth!
