Geometry translated into stone

How To Enter

To enter this contest, post your photos or documents online using this registration form online. You may also submit a pointer to your personal webpage, if that's easier.

You have until midnight on Friday, January 14th to get your entries in.

The Challenge

Using only a compass and straight edge, draw some Gothic tracery. Please leave the intermediate steps for us to see.

For a refresher on geometric constructions, please look at this animated tutorial.

For inspiration, please look at Dr Dudley’s thesis originally titled “By Crafft of Ewclyde. The Sacramental Geometry of Peterborough Cathedral from 1100 to 1500.” In it, he quite literally retraces the geometry behind every arch and window of this beautiful Gothic structure.

The Prize

The most impressive entry will win a hardback copy of this book on sacred geometry by the same author.
